What are RSS and Atom?

RSS and Atom are different standards that provide an identical service: they allow users to easily receive updates about new content from websites without having to constantly revisit or reload the site.

How do I read these feeds?

All you need is an RSS reader, which will check for and inform you of new content in the RSS feed. For Windows users, there are applications such as Feedreader, and for Mac OS X NetNewsWire, NewsFire and Safari RSS. Bloglines is an excellent online service that works in most browsers which eliminates the need for downloading an application.

Modern Internet browsers such as Firefox and IE7 allow you to subscribe to feeds within the browser itself.
